Weird Al is on course to make his seasonal reappearance in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on Saturday. The lightly-raced nine-year-old finished 10 lengths behind Kauto Star last season after an easy win in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby.

Cheltenham Gold Cup winners Long Run and Imperial Commander both appear among the nine entries for Saturday's Betfair Chase at Haydock. Nicky Henderson's Long Run, who took the Cheltenham highlight in 2011, chased home the rejuvenated Kauto Star in this Grade One event 12 months ago.

Imperial Commander is on track to return to action in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on Saturday. The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained 11-year-old has not been seen since pulling up in last year's Cheltenham Gold Cup, which was his first run since he won the Haydock race in 2010.

Nigel Twiston-Davies is no hurry to decide on the next race for Imperial Leader following his pleasing introduction over hurdles at Southwell on Monday. The four-year-old, wearing the well-known black and white colours worn by 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Imperial Commander, got off the mark over two miles and five furlongs at the Nottinghamshire venue after finishing second in both his bumpers.

Imperial Commander came through a crucial racecourse workout with flying colours as the 2010 Gold Cup hero passed another test on his way to the Betfair Chase. The 11-year-old, who has been sidelined since being pulled up in the 2011 Gold Cup, worked two miles at Towcester in the hands of his regular race partner Paddy Brennan.
